Exact conversion factors
Factors follow the international definitions: 1 inch = 2.54 cm exactly, 1 pound = 0.45359237 kg exactly, 1 US gallon = 231 cubic inches (3.785411784 L) and 1 imperial gallon = 4.54609 L. Temperatures use the exact offset formulas (°F = °C × 9/5 + 32, K = °C + 273.15). Calories are thermochemical (4.184 J), BTU is the International Table BTU, and the electronvolt uses the exact 2019 SI value.
Good to know
Data storage shows both decimal units (1 kB = 1,000 bytes, used by drive makers) and binary units (1 KiB = 1,024 bytes, used by many operating systems), which is why a "1 TB" drive shows as about 931 GiB. Months and years in the time category are average Gregorian values (1 year = 365.2425 days). Fuel economy converts between distance-per-volume units and L/100 km, which is inversely proportional.
