About these fortunes

Every fortune on this page was written for minitool and keeps to a friendly, upbeat tone. The collection holds about 150 short messages about friendship, work, travel, home and small everyday wins. Each cookie picks one message at random with the browser's cryptographic random number generator, together with six different lucky numbers between 1 and 49.

One fortune per day

With One fortune per day switched on, the first cookie of the day sets the fortune and the lucky numbers. Cracking another cookie on the same day shows the same message again, and a fresh one arrives after midnight. The setting and the day's fortune live in the browser's local storage and stay on the device.

Where fortune cookies come from

Fortune cookies are a Japanese-American invention, most likely from bakeries in California in the early 1900s. Restaurants in the United States made them popular after the Second World War. In China, the cookies are mostly unknown, even though Western diners link them with Chinese restaurants.
