About this dice roller
The roller picks every face with the Web Crypto API (crypto.getRandomValues) and rejection sampling,
so each side of each die has exactly the same chance. A d20 lands on 20 once in twenty rolls on average, the same as
a balanced physical die. Rolls happen in the browser, and the history stays on this device.
Dice notation
Tabletop games write dice as NdX, where N is the number of dice and X is the number of sides. 3d6 means three six-sided dice added together, with totals from 3 to 18. Totals in the middle come up far more often than the extremes. Three six-sided dice make a 10 or an 11 about one roll in four, and a total of 3 only once in 216 rolls.
Which die for which game
Most board games use the six-sided d6. Dungeons & Dragons and other role-playing games use the full set: the d20 for attacks and ability checks, the d4 to d12 for damage, and the d100 (percentile dice) for random tables and percentage chances.
